Custo Barcelona was founded by the Dalmau brothers in the early 80’s after returning from world travels. They were particularly inspired by the styles of California worn by surfers that were not yet available in Spain.
Over time, they added to the collection to include a complete line including pants, coats and skirts.
Zac Posen’s collection was a delight to shoot. With many celebrity guests, there was an incredible buzz in the room. If you look closely you can see Jay Manuel of America’s Next Top Model in the front row.
Here are a set of my shots from the spring / Summer collection from Prabal Gurung. His use of color and color blocking to deliver his slimming Spring/Summer 2011 collection, he calls his work: ‘chic, restrained, intelligent dressing.’
Personally speaking, there are moments when something registers in your heart and mind and before you have time to process the information, that alerts you to your proximity to elegance. Prabal’s work triggers such a response.
To keep the images coming, I am keeping the text content to a minimum on the next round of posts unless I feel there is something delicious or crazy to call out 
Having said that, Charlotte Ronson’s line was completely delicious with strong colors and a blend of hippie, bohemian and casual designs.
Fashion’s Night Out takes place all across the world. Here in NYC we had many neighborhoods across the city to choose from to be a part of this fun event. It is a “global initiative created to celebrate fashion, restore consumer confidence, boost the industry’s economy, and put the fun back in shopping”.
As part of this event, the public mingle with designers, celebrities, models and fashion editors in special in-store events.
In our journey across the city we visited DKNY, Calvin Klein, Payless, Bloomingdale’s, Coach and Stewart Weitzman. While visiting these stores we saw actress Christina Ricci, NBA star Ben Gordon, and designers Christian Siriano, Isobel Toledo.
In Blomingdales, my friend Irish Rose from Austin Texas was there dressed as a Vegas Showgirl as part of their in store Vegas theme. She totally looked the part, and she insisted that my assistant Melissa try on the feathers
Calvin Klein had a live performance from musician Bryan Adams and a wonderful exhibition of his photography of models and stars and we saw model Karlie Kloss outside meeting fans
Born in Sendai Japan, Tadashi moved to Los Angeles to attend college and in 1982 founded the label Tadashi Soji.
The format of the Tadashi Shoji show was something I had never seen in person before. Referred to by some as a display, the models are static and the audience walks around to view the designs from a much closer distance than usual.
We also saw Jojo, the recording artist with Universal Records, made an appearance to view the collection.
So far, Richie Rich has proved to be the most colorful fashion designer whose creations we have photographed in Fashion Week 2010. Not just in relation to his color choices for his latest collection on display in front of an eager audience here in NY, but he definitely delivered the most theatrical runway show, reflecting his intent to inject fun into his designs and his shows. Starting out with a ballet dancers, who were followed by a DJ and a violinist, the show took off and revealed 2 collections and the first model to walk for Richie was Ice T’s wife CoCo. Right at the end of the second collection, Ellen Degeneres walked the runway and struck some fierce poses trumping Zoolander’s “Blue Steel” signature pose.
One thing that is striking is the degree of creativity that designers have season after season. Even if one is not familiar with every designer, it is still possible to recognize elegance and beauty.
Many of the designers I am shooting on the runway during fashion week – including Richard Chai – are new to me, and I have to admit to being so very grateful to be able to be a part of this event and to capture their designs.
Day one from the Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week 2010 was complete with a flurry of photographers, tv crews, models, designers, celebrities and lovers of fashion.
Shooting this event was a first for both me and my assistant Melissa Weston. Fellow photographers and videographers were instrumental in helping us navigate the media frenzy.
In particular, Katy Winn and Diane Cohen (both veteran shooters of Fashion Week), were extremely helpful and encouraging to both of us on our first day. Much thanks to you both, and to the rest of the community for the assistance!
